Comments on Punches

This is how I started my day, a customer called and said they had an overnight break in and needed the safe opened.

When I asked the make / model of the safe, they could not answer as they were not at the location.

Here is what I found when I arrived at the job site.  A Gary double compartment TL-15 safe with both dials knocked off and the handle shafts pulled out.

After evaluating the situation, my decision was easy.  I side punched the beast.  As brutal as the pictures look, the repairs seemed simple when compared to drilling that old 1970's hard  plate.

Yes Sir, The punch pictured is a product from Bob Stabley.  I strongly recommend that you buy the entire set.  The punches come in different diameters and lengths.

Three whacks with a 3 lb hammer opened the door.  Of course I had good swinging room and with the punch handle holder in place, I may have been a bit braver because it offers control and a safer distance from your hand.

Yes I had seen this model before, also I was able to verify this in DM safe opening book on page 89.

And I sure feel lucky this safe was not anchor bolted next to the wall (on the opening side that is).
